Install Laminate Flooring Border

In this video jon and i install a laminate or floating floor in one of his bedrooms at his house.

Set nail heads slightly below the surface of the molding and fill with wood putty. A small room will look a bit larger if the borders are narrower. Alternatively use a mitre saw or tenon saw and mitre block. Then go to the next corner and do the same thing.

Borders are easier when the flooring is being installed. Use scotia cutters to cut the corners to a 45 angle. This will tell you what the width of the final row of planks should be. Use touch up paint to cover the wood putty.

The product we are using in this video is lowes quick step. It is essential to leave an adequate expansion gap when installing a laminate floor. A wide border can also give more emphasis to the flooring. Prior to all work perimeter areas should be established.

Measure and mark with a pencil on the length of laminate flooring trim where the cut needs to be made. Install flooring parallel to the longest wall or focal point in the room. When those are installed go back and fill in the area between the first and second corner with the border. Center the first piece of laminate over the intersection where the chalk lines meet.

Install the baseboards remove the spacers around the border and install baseboards and quarter round covering the plastic moisture barrier on the wall and the gap between the wall and the flooring. In some cases installers will begin in the center of the field so as to allow a perfect alignment of the final board being the same size on parallel walls. You can use a planer or a power sander to make your installation. Start installing the border with a corner block making sure it s firmly in place.

Lay loose laminate flooring down to create a color pattern before you start installing the tiles or planks. Since most new laminate flooring uses a click lock tongue and groove system you ll have to trim off with your saw the upper groove of the laminate plank that comes before the notched piece. This video shows how to install scotia beading around a laminate floor. The width of the border has to be proportional to the other flooring tiles and the area of the bathroom.

Measure from each wall and divide by two to find your center. If the corner block is attached to the border install the whole section with the corner block attached. Now install the notched laminate planks in the doorway. Once the flooring is laid the last finishing touch is to add a laminate flooring trim.
