Install Floor Baseboard

Then use the brad nail gun to nail it in place.

Install floor baseboard.

When you get to an outside corner set the first piece to that it extends past the outside corner. Along each wall where baseboard will be installed note the length in feet and inches. Drag the compass point along the floor drawing a line across the bottom of the baseboard. For a carpet you d want to install baseboards first and then tuck and secure the carpet underneath them.

You d finish with the baseboards to cover up this space. Slide the compass along the floor over the board s length keeping the points aligned vertically. Shim the floor gaps to avoid tilted baseboards. In this video i share tips and tricks that i have learned over the years to create.

Don t worry it doesn t really need to be to scale. Builders prefer to do the baseboards first and then bring the tile right up to the tile. To place the baseboard on the uneven floor use a carpenter s level to measure it straight. You can also use a hammer and nail but the nail gun will make it quick.

Place the point of the compass even with the floor against the wall and the pencil against the baseboard slightly above the board s bottom. For hardwood laminate you d want to lay the floor first leaving a small space for expansion between the floor and wall. Continue to measure cut and install the baseboard molding around the room. It depends on the floor type.

Mark it where it will meet the other piece of the outside corner by setting your try square or combination square against the surface of the wall it meets. It s best to keep the nails at the bottom of the base above the gap so they go through drywall not air. Remove the board and set it onto a cutting surface. Without changing the spread of the compass s legs hold the pencil on the baseboard and the point against the floor.

Using chunks of 1 2 inch scrap plywood cut the blocks and tuck them into the gap every few feet. If it is installed with the tile up to the baseboard trim then you should leave about a 1 8 gap that you should fill will caulking. In my line of work i sometimes have to install baseboard for my customers. Install the baseboard right over them tight against the floor molding.

Home owners generally prefer the look of doing the tile first and then installing the baseboard trim.
